I used Jansport throughout college and has, without a doubt, been the best investment for a Strong/Sturdy backpack that you would ever need. I went to undergraduate school and Medical School, and MANY times I carried a lot of books and the Jansport backpack was the Best at carrying heavy loads. It is not made for the laptop, specifically, yet can carry one without a problem. Zippers are Heavy Duty. I use small locks where the zippers meet, because the end of the zippers have little holes that allow small locks to lock the zippers. Almost all backpacks do Not have that feature. It is water-resistant. I would not submerge it in water to see if it is really waterproof, yet for almost anybody's needs it will keep everything dry inside of it. Students and Campers will find lots of room for things inside of it.If anything goes wrong, just get in touch with Jansport, they will be more than helpful, considering it has a Lifetime guarantee, and Jansport has been around for a very long time.Remember, it is not padded inside of it (for example, a padded sleeve for a laptop). This is the second year I have ordered this backpack for my high schooler. It is durable and fits everything necessary from water bottle, lunchbox, computer, folders and text books. There are serval zip areas to separate and store multiple items. A winner!

I bought this product to replace my older Big Student Jansport backpack that I've had since 2006. That's 7 years now! My older backpack was used heavily during this time in all weather conditions. It's gone through rain/sleet/snow/100+ heat and -20F temps and hasn't faded. It can sure fit everything you need in there. While my old big student backpack could keep going, I think that after so many years of use it would be a good idea to replace. The bottom part of the bag is getting real thin, mostly because of setting it down on hard concrete a lot.Something to note...There is no compartment for laptops. You can fit up to a 17" laptop in the bigger compartment, but it will be a tight fit. Laptops 16" and under will fit fine, but there is little protection for them so don't drop the bag.There's only 1 side pocket. Wish there was another side pocket so we could place another water bottle or an umbrella.Since I did have an older model Jansport Big Student backpack, I can see some changes. A minor change is the color of the interior. The older model was light gray and this one is darker, which is better so I'm not complaining. The biggest change was to the straps. The older model straps were a bit bigger thus provided a bit more support. Straps on older model are 3.5" wide at the top, 2.5" wide in center, and 1.75" towards to bottom. This newer model is 2.75" top, 2.5" center, and 2" bottom. Still haven't been able to test whether comfort has changed so I will update this review in a few weeks if I notice discomfort.Overall, I hope this newer version lasts just as long as my previous one. For the price, you sure can't find a better backpack. Check prices often as sometimes the price dips under $30 (as I bought mine). Highly recommend.

This thing has lasted me YEARS!Every school year, I always had my backpack shred on me halfway through. It never failed. There'd be a hole in the bottom or a zipper would rip off or a strap buckle would brake.This is probably because I carry EVERY book i'll need for the day in my bookbag. Even when I gained lockers, I did not put my stuff in them as it'd be too much of a bother to travel all around the school to get something from it when there is only so much time to get to class. That isn't even mentioning that i'm forgetful and would leave something important at the school.So I knew I needed a heavy-duty bookbag that could take heavy loads, and this is what I came up with. It seemed like the biggest one I could find and so I ordered it.It's been three or four years and I have not had to replace it yet! That's with everything i've needed inside it for that particular day for three or four school years! I measured my full pack once and it was about 30 Pounds. This thing can take a beating. After all this time it still doesn't show any wear beyond some dust that's accumulated on the bottom from sitting it on class floors and some slight (and I mean like if you took a dull shaving razor and lightly scraped it along small bits of it) scratching from sliding it under desks.If your tired of having to purchase new bookbags every year or think your going to need something that can handle a lot of stress/weight, look no further!
