This appears to work very well when you follow the instructions. When I bought mine there were at least a dozen sellers of this same product. The high percentage of 1-star reviews for this item from this and other sellers had me concerned so I did more research. A lot of the 1-star reviews complain that the user put the probe in a glass of water and it still registered "dry". While the instructions don't say "don't put this in a glass of water", DON'T. HOFUN should add this to their instructions and to this listing. Other sellers have added it to their listings, explaining that it is only designed to be inserted in soil, not water, and that inserting the probe directly in water will give false readings and possibly damage the unit. Attached images show readings before and after adding small amount water and vinegar to a small cup of soil I used for testing. I'm totally satisfied.

good tool for any gardner, numbers are small that's the only draw back but I'm old.

Doesn’t work. Inserted into several different potted soils to make sure. Nothing made the needle move. Returning immediately.UPDATE: I was issued a refund. This review is for the actual product but customer service is 5 stars!

Works great! Got tired of sticking my finger in the dirt to see if my plants needed water. Love this moisture meter.

Easy to use product reads accurate

I read all the positive reviews and bought this product. The first thing I did was place it in a large cup of water. The dial read "dry". I placed it in different pots of plants and the reading did not change. I was really confused because all the reviews were so good. But I had to return the defective product.
