Very useful

I have a bit of experience working with electronics (a few years) and I read this book quickly but I enjoyed it immensely.This great book includes numerous great sample circuits.These circuits are very easy to build but help the reader to immediately grasp the deeper concepts of how electronics work.Additionally this book starts out with a very simple circuit (Steady Hand sample) that requires very few parts but is quite instructive about the difference between a closed circuit (turned on) and an open circuit (turned off).Each project builds nicely upon the knowledge from the previous one and the resulting projects (even though they are simple) are quite interesting.The explanations are clear and direct and will definitely stimulate beginners to want to do more.This book is a fantastic example of Einstein's rule of thumb, "As simple as possible, but no simpler."Kudos to the author on a great introductory text to the world of electronics. It's not easy to simplify things to this level and still keep it interesting and I'm sure it took a lot of work.

This “children” book is not as clear as it should be. Not enough clear pictures of the projects. I bought the book for my 9 year old nephew, ordered many of the components and before giving the book to him, I decided to do some of the projects myself, in case he had questions when he started doing the projects. Project 5 “The Blinking LED” didn’t blink. Project 6 didn’t even light. After looking up online I found out how to make it work. I didn't even show him the book and instead bought “Make: Electronics” 3rd Edition by Charles Platt.Started reading this one and it is Excellent! Even if you pay full price of $35 (mine cost me $19 on sales, and only one dollar more for the other book), your child will have a lot of hours learning and having fun. The author even shows you how to break a Relay to see what's inside and how it works. Bought a second copy for myself and doubled the amount of components for the projects. If your child likes the first book, he or she will eventually need a more advanced book. Why bother getting the first book then, just buy the book of Platt with very clear details and instructions,with a lot more pictures, illustrations, diagrams and even history of electronic pioneers.

I don’t like the book. It was not easy and just a old book.

This might be obvious as I purchased this late at night with a bunch of other books for children about circuitry and electrical engineering, but this is DRY. Definitely for adults.
