Really convenient to just keep a few in the freezer and a couple at room temp to microwave when heat is needed. You'll need at least a couple for larger muscles/muscle groups, but this is a great intermediate size that's really versatile for adults. For children you'd probably want a smaller size to get more targeted application.They stay colder longer than a bag of ice, and get cold enough for 10 minutes of icing (the recommended max for most situations) after only an hour in the freezer.My PT recommended longer icing times, and they stay quite cold for 20-30 minutes if they've been frozen for a few hours. Heated in the microwave they stay sufficiently warm for 15-20 min depending on surrounding temps.They don't freeze solid so they're easy to mold around body parts. If you keep them in the freezer they'll be quite stiff when they first come out, but wrap it in a towel and massage it a couple times and it'll get slushy again.I've been using the same ~6 bags on frequent rotation for several months now, and they've held up great with no leaks from normal use.

We provide high-quality medical "ingredients" in our bags, and so this is the only hot/cold product we use. It holds up well to repeated uses.

I was so nervous. I was getting ready to walk in to the surgery staging area and get an IV. The nurse was amazing. I told her I was very nervous because I only had one decent vein for an IV and it was tough as cowhide. I showed her my little warmer (it had been my experience veins are never warmed before an IV insertion) and told her I brought it to help.She gently smiled, thanked me for letting her know I had a good vein so she didn't have to search for one, and why don't we use her warmer instead. She brought out one of these McKesson gel packs that was nice and warm. I got into my gown and I don't even remember her putting in the IV because the vein was soft enough to easily insert the IV.We got home after my surgery and my husband found this set of McKesson gel packs (exactly like the one the nurse used) and we froze some of them to help with the pain from my knee surgery.

These are nice reusable cold packs for small boo boos and headaches.

Love the normal ice packs. Sent back that other order of tiny dinky ice packs for hobbits? Me crippled with broken knee was hard to get to ups but sent back and said don’t sell these useless things. Snowbound cuz of storms. $ 20 of junk. See other ice pack order

These gel packs are the greatest out there for sore mucles... they freeze pretty well and stay cold longer then any gel pack I've tried....only thing is they should want customers not to lay on them for long or they will break and leak...use them in bed under my hip,by morning I was covered in blue gel...glad its non toxic!

These are great ice packs for after surgery or just for sore muscles. We used these for my husbands surgeries, when i broke my foot and more. They can be frozen or heated in the microwave for hot.
