glad I tried it
surprisingly effective. I use this as my first wash...then my regular shampoo afterwards. If I don't use regular shampoo, my hair retains too much oil, but if I don't use this bar, my hair is too flyaway! Perfect balance between the two.If you wash your hair every day, it might be different, but I only wash mine every 4-5 days.

Top notch for grays!
I don’t write many reviews, but I tried this shampoo based on customer reviews. The original bar has transformed my curly gray hair! After one brisk scrub it has emerged relatively impervious to humidity, maintained a shine and looked healthier than it has in a very long time. This is far superior to anything else I’ve tried. Never going back!

*Clean with a Catch
Upon first use, I really loved how easily the bar soap lathered and "cleaned" my hair. I use quotations around the word because, after about 3 washes, I noticed that my hair was becoming overwhelmingly greasy after 1 day. It felt thick and heavy at the roots with a grimy build up of oil. It would leave a thick texture on my hands as though I put men's texturizing pomade in my hair. For reference, I have long, medium weight (virgin) hair with a short fringe. I already have an oily scalp. I've been on this Earth for 27 years, so I know how my natural oils feel. The build up I was feeling was definitely not my own, but from the shampoo bar. I had to stop using it and use a heavy duty clarifying shampoo to remove the texturizing build up. It took several washes to get it out.In conclusion, this shampoo is for who its for. If you have shorter hair and prefer the added texture and grime, then this shampoo bar is for you. Personally, I am going to switch back to the Kitsch brand shampoo bar. It weighed down my hair where I didn't need/want it.

Pleasant little surprise
When I received this item I was so surprised at how small the bar was that I nearly packaged it right back up for return. But, I had purchased it because I wanted to help reduce plastic waste in our household, and wasn't sure how my husband would even react to the idea, so I decided to give it a try anyway... Well, I must say that I was impressed! I have extremely long, thick, straight hair. Usually I have to use an entire handful of liquid shampoo to get it all lathered up. But not with this bar! It took little effort to achieve a full lather throughout my entire mop, and with basically no visible use of the bar. As I massaged the soap through my hair it actually SQUEEKED, and the scent was light and pleasant with no heavy perfumes. The shampoo also rinsed out quick and easy, greatly reducing the amount of time I normally have to run water in the shower to get my hair fully rinsed.I never blow dry my hair, or use styling products or irons...I just let it air dry and brush it out later, and sometimes use a detangler if I didn't use a handful of conditioner after shampooing. But this time brushing my hair was much easier, and it felt light, soft, and had increased volume and shine. Later on, my husband tried it, and he usually doesn't outwardly comment on much of anything unless he hates something. But, without me even asking, he actually stated that he liked the bar shampoo, and commented on how little of it he had to use. So with that, I think we're sold!I made note of the day we started using the bar, to see how long it lasts in our household of two adults...so we'll see how it goes. Fortunately our shower has built in bar soap holders with drainage, and they are positioned in such a way that our rain showerhead doesn't really wear away at our regular bar soaps. But I did notice that this bar is nice, solid and firm, and after we used it, it didn't get soft or gooey at all. So I think it will last a good long while, and its definitely less wasteful than handfuls of liquid shampoo and conditioner! That, along with the fact that I can eliminate THREE plastic bottles from the recycling (shampoo, conditioner, and detangler), and the expense of the two additional products, this will be a much better value overall.Very pleased!

Good Natural Shampoo for Fine Hair
I have shoulder length slightly wavy, very fine hair-- and a lot of it. And although I have a lot of hair, my biggest problem is flat hair because it is so fine. I've spent a lot of money on products to help increase volume, but I really hadn't found anything that worked all day.A friend was telling me about all the bad things in regular shampoo, so I decided to switch to all natural products. I did some research and decided to initially try the home made stuff--- water, castile soap, and essential oils = shampoo and diluted apple cider vinegar for the conditioner. I'll say the conditioner was better than the shampoo, but it wasn't really doing it for me so I decided to switch again. I tried a combo of three products: JR Liggett's bar shampoo, Dr. Bonners citrus conditioner rinse, and Dr. Bonner's Lavender and coconut conditioner and styling creme. They all came at different times (only days apart), but I got to try the Lavender and Coconut hair creme first with my homemade products. I used just a tiny drop, but it really did make a huge difference in the smoothness and softness of my hair. It also has a pleasant, but not over powering smell. I really didn't see any difference in the volume of my hair thoughNext came the bar shampoo-- big improvement over the handmade shampoo and in combination with the dr. bonner hair creme my hair was even softer. The bar shampoo says it can be used without any other products-- eh. I tried it without the conditioning products, but it isn't something I'd do again. My hair wasn't stringy but it had a strange texture. Still not a lot of increase in volume. It has a pleasant smell-- very clean and fresh.Next came the Dr. Bonner Citrus Rinse. Awesome. The combination of all three products definitely seems to be the winner. It is important to use all the products according to the package instructions or your hair may not be exactly what you want it to be, but when it's used properly-- great results. My hair is soft, smooth, feels thicker and it typically looks and feels even better the next day.. and the day after that. No more problems with oily hair and I haven't had any dandruff. As for volume, I have seen an improvement. I even wore my hair in a ponytail for work, wore it up all day, and then took it down when I went to sleep. When I woke up-- volume! That has never, ever, ever happened before. When I air dry my hair it seems to dry a little faster and behave a lot better than before. My natural wave seems to be a little more pronounced and not look like bed head so much anymore. It is just worth mentioning that I did try to go without the hair creme and just use the bar soap and the citrus rinse, but my hair wasn't as smooth and soft as before, but it did have the boost in volume. It wasn't a HUGE difference in the softness, but it was noticeable enough that I'd keep buying the hair creme. Also, be aware that the switch did make my hair feel different in a very indescribable way. It isn't bad at all, but it is a little different. I think it feels healthier, thicker and I'm just not used to it.
