Jet Plane: How It Works

This is one of those rare books which manage to keep a good balance between being educational, understandable for kids, but not treating them like ADHD sufferers with an attention span of a goldfish. You learn all the names for basic airplane parts and how they work, with great illustrations and laconic yet clear explanations. My 3 y.o. loves it and as he grows he would be able to understand more and more of it - it has great re-read value.It is short, and it is a paperback, but print & binding quality is actually much better than I expected.Overall, for this price it's a real bargain!

This is a great kid-friendly guide to what an airplane is and how it works. Filled with detailed diagrams and a bit of Macaulay's whimsy (check out Leonardo DaVinci stuffed into a coach seat next to a screaming baby) it's a fun book to read to children.The text and subject matter are a bit (a lot) over the heads of my 4 year old girls but that's fine, they love reading it with me and are very, very happy to see one of the pilots is a woman. Now they both want to be pilots!This will definitely come with us next time we fly so we can go through it step by step.

My first grader has had a long-standing love of learning how things work. He has a few of these other shorter David MacCaulay books and was very excited to receive this addition for a Chanukah gift. This is an engaging read with detailed, high-quality drawings. There is some narrative structure to the book, as the author guides the reader through a passenger experience on a jet plane and then describes how it works. The amount of detail is perfect for older preschoolers and early elementary schoolers. This is a great read for kids who have budding STEM interests!

Great basics of flying for young and old alike who are taking their first flight. The page on how a jet engine works was unecessary really as it did not stay in sync with the rest of the book as far a simplicity. The way they talk about different noises you will experience during flight is very valuable. I have SIX daughters and am in no way sexist but the book makes it sound like only a woman can be a pilot. That was quite odd I thought. I would definitely purchase it again if needed and recommend it highly as it really is one of a kind out there on the subject of taking your first flight.

This was a fine introduction to how jets work. Took us about half an hour to get through and prompted another half an hour's discussion of drag, lift, etc.

Great book that tells children how planes work in the context of a 737 flight. Excellently illustrated, and well told story- like the title says, I'm super sick of the book, because our 5 year old wants to read it every single night now.Oh.. .and the very end with the people all getting up at once made me laugh!

My 8 year old can’t put it down. This book does a great job explains how a jet works so a child can understand.

Fun book to read on an airplane ride. My 4 year old loved it. Provided a good (educational) distraction while waiting to board the plane and while waiting for the plane to take off.
