Skiing Manual: Getting started: Equipment, techniques, safety, competition (Haynes Manuals)

Written mainly for beginners, this book is very easy to read. It's broken into many sections, which are usually just two pages long. It makes the book snappy and to the point; it is easy to dip into. Written with a sense of humour which doesn't get too stretched or gimmicky, it balances opinion, good practice and technicalities.It has lots of pictures which helps understanding greatly, but I've docked one star as some pictures are not clear in explaining more difficult points - some highlighting within the pictures would have helped. However this doesn't detract significantly for a book that covers multiple facets of the world of skiing.
