Good simple unit (and I got it at a good price from Amazon) to test out Cat 5 cables. If you're using it to test patch cables, you just plug the patch cable into both sockets. If you're using it to test installed cables, you'll need two patch leads.This model is a bit more sophisticated than the most basic ones, as it shows continuity on all pairs and also identifies swapped pairs.

I've used cheaper cable testers in past and they've been relatively good but became unreliable after a while.I decided to upgrade, I did some research and came across the Klien VDV526-200 cable tester. Compared to cheaper cable testers that I've used in the past this is miles better in the materials used, its ruggedness construction and also the functionality and information that it provides when testing cables.For my purpose, it exceeded my expectations and I would absolutely recommend it to other IT professionals & enthusiasts.
