Spinervals Competition DVD 13.0 - Tough Love
The workout is good and is intended for an advance rider as suggested. You will sweet! I have yet to complete the 3 hour session do to time (only had it a month). I do like the fact that there is three hours of training if I want it. The workout focuses on keeping your heart rate at the 85% level for a large part of the session--right at the lactate threshold. For me, at 55, I can get there pretty fast. I am no triathlete, but did ride in a couple of centuries in 2012 and will be riding the Death ride (tour of the Alps) with some friends here in 2013.For me I would rather adjust my workout with room to improve than master it and have to buy another workout in the future, and I wanted something more than an hour long. The background music is okay, not obnoxious metal music and the set is pretty cool, some museum somewhere. My reason for a 4 star rating is: the DVD quality is good, a 3 on a scale of 1 to 5 and the price is steep.

OK work out, terrible execution
Terrible production: whoever mastered this was not paying attention. At times, music is so loud that it drowns the coach instruction. Music also "fades" in and out so you need to have your remote in order to adjust volume: so much for focusing on cycling. The music volume fading in and out is not subtle either. Anyway, it will get you to spend some time in the saddle, but you will spend an inordinate amount of time standing up on your pedal (easily over 30% of the work out). I understand that you need to stand up a little more on the trainer, but this is way too much. At this point, I pretty much ignore when he tells you to stand up: too inefficient. It somewhat better than cycling in front of a movie, but for the price, one would expect better quality.

Workout Quality 4 Star, DVD Physical Quality 1 Star
I enjoy the Spinervals Video Series. This one is great and can be broken up into 3 workouts of approximately 1 hour each You can also build up to do the entire 2 hour 57 minute video. It would have been a bit better had Coach Troy provided better cues for people on spinners. In this video he doesn't provide as many verbal cues on set intensity as he normally does . I really have a gripe with the physical quality of the DVD, hiowever. The last two Spinervals videos I have purchased from Amazon have come out of the box with skips on them. This one had two skips, and within about a week of use had multiple skips. It's very annoying when you are timing a set or your entire workout. Whoever physically produces the DVD;'s needs to get their act together. Workout quality is very good, disk physical quality is inferior. I have some older Spinerval DVD's I've been using for years that are still in great shape. These DVD's are of poor physical quality.

Very Good Workout
This is a good, through workout. Troy does a good job letting you know what's coming and for how long. In that sense it's typical of his videos(including the silly introductions). But this works you pretty hard. The workouts are not participatory tough, what makes it challenging is that they are long in duration(ex. 30 min. long) and there is a lot of alternating sitting and standing which works the legs really well, typical one minute on, one minute off. The workouts go by fast. After two hours, you know you're getting it done. If you've got the time, doing this regularly will be a big boost for getting you ready for spring outdoors riding. Recommend it.

Great Pre-Ironman
I found this a great DVD for training for an ironman in my case and I would think for any long distance rider. As Coach Troy points out, it is so much better than just watching movies while on the trainer. It gives much a very specific and guided long workout. It certainly has taken me to a totally higher level of bike trainer training. I even delayed getting out one the road for a couple of weeks because I really felt this DVD so productive.

Very tough
This video is well done and the instructor does a good job of mixing it up to keep you interested for 3 hours on a stationary bike or the trainer. However, this is not for the faint of heart, it is an extremely hard workout and will get you in riding shape for the longer distance rides.

Not what I expected
This DVD is sure not what I expected. I was expecting a traditional spinning class setting with a traditional spinning class bike because that is what I can train on. This is an actual bike mounted. I'm sure it's fantastic but if you are looking for something like a spinning class you will have to guess the resistance. No good for me.

My wife just completed her fourth Half Ironman triathlon. She uses the Spinervals videos to train in the winter on her trainer in our garage. They help her, not just to maintain, but to improve her fitness level. She loves the way they break up the monotony of traiing.
