Could have been better!
Disappointing, a lot of songs are just chord boxes and not tabbed. Quite a few also do not have the guitar solos tabbed e.g Light my fire, Roadhouse blues and Soul kitchen. Opportunity missed!

The Doors of Deception
This is going to be a long review as I have waited for this book a long time but it is so rubbish it angered me; the most disappointing guitar tablature book I have come across in 20 years of playing. If anyone sees any mistakes I've made in my analysis, forgive me it was hugely tedious, let me know and I will go back over the recording and amend. If Amazon would allow zero stars that's what I'd give. Firstly before talking about the guitar tabs for each album I would like to point you towards The Doors guitar tablature anthology by wise publications as each of its 21 songs is fully tabbed and I believe it to be the most "complete" guitar tab book for the Doors. There is also the doors guitar tab anthology by Alfred publishing but people have said that this one has parts missing too; No surprise as its Alfred publishing again! I contacted Alfred about this new 50th anniversary book and all the con artist phrases they have used to sell it as well as mentioning the fact that half the guitar tabs are missing. Alfred publishing did not care a hoot, they fobbed me off with bla bla, send it back, you know the story......like money is more important than guitar. So, the world will under appreciate the full nuance of Kriegers playing for another generation at least, unless Hal Leonard step in.......Right, onto The Doors 50th anniversary Songbook. I am only talking about the guitar tablature as I am not an organist. The back of the book proudly states authentic transcriptions with guitar "TAB" yes tab is in upper case lettering to appeal to us guitarists. The back of the book also proudly lets us know there is an introduction from guitar world magazines senior music editor Jimmy Brown. When reading Jimmy Browns introduction he waxes lyrical about Robby Kriegers guitar work on many songs and goes into depth about his solo on Light my Fire. The only problem is that the guitar solo is missing from this book, as is most of the guitar work Jimmy Brown mentions in his introduction. I didn't go through the soft parade as its my least favorite album by the Doors and by that point I was bored out of my brain. I will now list what guitar tab you do or do not get for the other five albums in chronological order. I have also considered the 2 current Amazon USA reviews which are incorrect in stating that 30% of the guitar parts are missing and that the parts that are missing do not matter. The missing parts do matter if you are serious about guitar, have paid for them and it is closer to approx 60% of guitar parts missing. This is just a guesstimate, feel free to work it out exactly if your interested.ALBUM - The Doors (1967)Break on through - seems okSoul Kitchen - no guitar intro and no guitar soloCrystal Ship - no guitar tab at all. Song is mostly piano and organ anyway.20th century fox - no tab in chorusAlabama song - no tab at all, chords onlyLight My Fire - no guitar soloBack Door Man - no tab for verse/chorus. No guitar soloI looked at you - no guitar tabEnd Of The Night - the intro chorus is called verse 1 and is half tabbed. Weird! Verse 2 no tab at all so is missing Kriegers beautiful slide playing. Missing slide playing becomes a theme for this waste of paper. Verse 3 no tab. We are told to use the intro riff for all verses though the guitar parts are different.Take it as it Come - no tab but mostly organ anyway. The End - intro is tabbed. We are told to reuse this through the song though the chords aren't the same. The 18 bar instrumental which is nothing like the intro simply says improvise as per intro. The 56 bar instrumental climax is missing. So, all that is tabbed is the 22 bar intro. What a con!ALBUM - Strange Days (1967)Strange Days - no verse tab, it simply says with tremoloYou're Lost Little Girl - this is good but the chorus is only half tabbed, weird!Love Me Two Times - essential Krieger during organ solo is missing. Final verse variation on his theme which I view as essential to learning Kreigers phrasing style is also missing.Unhappy Girl - no slide tab in bridge. Lazy, why do half the job!Horse Latitudes - lyrics onlyMoonlight Drive - half of verse 1 slide phrase is missing. So Lazy! Verse 2 half tabbed. We are expected to repeat repeat. Verse 3 no tab at all and no explanation. Lazy lazy Alfred!People Are Strange - chorus not tabbed. Verses have slide and arpeggio parts but they're not tabbed. This is getting annoying now!My Eyes Have Seen You - verses only half tabbedI Cant See Your Face In My Mind - chorus slide playing not tabbed. Bridge slide playing not tabbed. Coda only half tabbed. When The Musics Over - chords only for the intro then some partial tab. Guitar solo says ad lib because they can't be bothered. It should be 2 guitars for 20 bars of Kriegers top class art. Alfred may as well sell a book that repeatedly says ad lib, oh hang on they have done that. Each verse has its own dynamic phrasing and all we get is ad lib or simile. We finally see some tab at "we want the world and we want it now" this lasts 8 bars then it's back to simile. Then a little tab at save us Jesus then nothing again for the rest of the song. This is an insult to paper!ALBUM - Waiting For The Sun (1968)Hello I Love You - mostly tabbed. the outro sounds like 2 guitars to me. Neither are tabbed. Here we go again.Love Street - at the keyboard interlude/piano solo there's no guitar tabbed. Bridge, no tab. Verse 4 no tab and though it's different from other verses we are expected to recycle/simile other parts. Not To Touch The Earth - verse 4 no tab. At the vocal climax sun sun sun, burn burn burn etc, all guitar playing is missing except the last 4 bars. Weird!Summer's Almost Gone - verse is a quarter tabbed (14 notes). Bridge no tab. Piano and slide guitar solo, What guitar solo it's missing. There's some really nice slide playing on the record and whoever transcribed this book hasn't got a clue about slide guitar which is a huge part of Kriegers playing. Alfred just doesn't care enough. 14 notes for the whole song, criminal.Wintertime Love - mostly chord playing with organ lead.Unknown Soldier - the verse chord boxes shown do not reflect Kriegers interesting rhythm part. Tab would remedy this but alas again there is none. Then the chorus is tabbed. Come on why do half a job! Outro chorus/hook has different playing but again isn't tabbed. We are told to repeat what came before but it's not what Krieger is playing.Spanish Caravan - during verse 1 where Morrison sings Andalucia etc..... We are told to continue simile but the simile from carry me caravan is E minor to A Minor, while Andalucia is A minor to E minor. It's a Little thing for some I know but it's the wrong harmony so it's not a little thing to a musician. The faster interlude part at 132 Bpm is only half tabbed. Alfred publishing are a con. Cherry picking random parts and hoping it will do.My Wild Love - a chord is given though there are no guitars on the recording.Yes The River Knows - Interlude and bridge no tab, Kriegers cool arpeggios, come on Alfred your making this great guitarist look duff. Verse 2 no tab thus missing Kriegers really nice chord tone soloing. Bridge 2 no tab. Chorus, chords only which sound wrong at breathe under water.Five to One - I know this is a simple song but there is more going on than Alfred publishing show us. Verse 1 continues the main riff, fine, but then has notes missing at the end. A new riff appears 2 bars before verse 2 and is tabbed but as soon as verse 2 starts the tab vanishes. What the, it is not a simile, nor ad lib. How can I learn if the learning material I have paid for isn't printed. Guitar solo, OMS it's tabbed. Excuse me while I pass out! They actually printed a guitar solo!ALBUM - the Soft Parade (not reviewed as per it's mostly naff for guitarists and I'm brain dead by this now)ALBUM - Morrison Hotel (1970)Road House Blues - intro riff is the least I expect and its tabbed, hooray. Verse 1 says cont simile except verse 1 has playing that's different to the intro. Verse 2 is partially tabbed (4 bars of 12). Why not verse one. So muddled and lazy. The guitar solo isn't tabbed. Bridge has partial tab (cont simile). Verse 3 has no tab and no Kriegers playing is not the same as verses 1 and 2, it's not a simile.Waiting For The Sun - bridge, Kriegers beautiful slide playing isn't tabbed but then at this is the strangest life, it is tabbed. Why tab half a bridge? You Make Me Real - solo not tabbed, instead we get cont simile. Junk!Peace Frog - one of Kriegers best solos. Instead we get resume verse simile.Blue Sunday - instead of Kriegers arpeggiated chord tone soloing in the verses and bridge we get boring chord boxes. If Hendrix complete catalogue can be tabbed surely Blue Sunday can be done correctly! Not by Alfred!Ship Of Fools - for verse 1 and 2 we get 2 bars of guitar tab. Just before the chorus Krieger plays the tremolo part. It is not tabbed, nor is the chorus itself. Outro - you guessed it, ad lib and fade.Land Ho - the verse 1 riff is not the same as the intro yet we are expected to continue the intro riff (simile) regardless. Verse 2 was recorded with 2 guitars, neither are tabbed. Just before Morrisons big shout out "Land Ho" in the interlude Krieger plays a subtle multi string slide. It's not even given a chord box, Alfred didn't hear it. Verse 3 and outro are not tabbed until after vocals, even then most is missing. The Spy - all ok it seems, how refreshing. Until the outro where we get chords instead of Kriegers 14 bar single line soloing. Then for some peculiar reason the final bar is tabbed.Queen Of The Highway - Intro has rhythm signs '>,. Verses are not tabbed but are not the same as the rhythm figures mentioned. Both are interesting but missing tab. So, no tab until after verses 1 and 2 despite some great fills. verse 3 no tab. Outro no tab. Rubbish rubbish rubbish!Indian Summer - chorus isn't tabbedMaggie M'Gill - one of the 2 guitars in the intro is missing. Verse 1 is half tabbed. Verse 2 is not tabbed at all despite 2 guitar parts. Organ solo is backed by Kriegers interesting slide parts which again are not tabbed. At one point later both guitars are tabbed as one. Again Alfred isn't listening. Outro again no tab despite not being a simile.ALBUM - LA Woman (1971)The Changeling - the intro has 2 guitar parts. One is missing. Again we are told to continue simile. Yawn! Verse 1, no rhythmic indications though there's chords but no tab. Verse 2, the guitar fills change throughout but we simply get a couple of chords again. OMS - guitar solo comprised of 3 guitar parts. Wow! Now this begs the question, if they can tab 3 guitar parts here why have they been so lazy everywhere else with the simpler task of 2 guitars or even 1?Love Her Madly - A mess. The chords don't align with the lyrics below them. The verses have 2 guitar parts but we only get chords for 1, the 12 string, but then 3 bars of 6 string are tabbed at the end because they stand out and are easy to tab. After the organ solo there is what sounds like rasguerdo by Krieger but it's ignored.Been Down So Long - verse 2 has 2 guitars, possibly 3, none of it is tabbed. We get one phrase instead. Any slide playing is ignored again. The first guitar solo isn't tabbed. The second guitar solo isn't tabbed. Rubbish!LA Woman - Intro slide up at is not tabbed and second guitar (rhythm) is not tabbed. Instead it's given a single chord. Guitar solo 1 isn't tabbed. Chorus, no tab, instead 1 chord until "into your blues", so all the nice fill are missing. The half time Mr Mojo Risin part isn't tabbed so we are missing nice fills again. Guitar solo 2 is tabbed. Why do one but not the other. Outro chorus not tabbed. Rubbish again and again.L'America - cmon people don't you look so down blues riff in E isn't tabbed. Organ and guitar solo, guitar not tabbed. Bridge not tabbed until half way through at Like a gentle rain. In the chorus outro that speeds up the guitar part differs from what came before yet we are told to resume chorus fig.Hyacinth House - verses not tabbed; the guitar in the mix is somewhat hard to hear clearly through the dense organ but even the parts that are clear are ignored. Bridge is not tabbed except the last bar. Why! During the organ solo there are guitar phrases missing. Outro not tabbed.Crawling King Snake - verses say cont simile even though there's 2 guitars on the record, both playing very different things. Guitar solo is not tabbed. The Wasp - during the organ solo we are told to cont simile, however Krieger does not play that. This is minor and otherwise this song is good. The solo is tabbed and we get 7 pages in all. This is the exception for me!Riders On The Storm - verses 1 and 4 tremolo guitar parts are not tabbed, but this guitar is the same guitar used for the solo which is tabbed. So annoying! Verses 2 and 4 are tabbed. Organ solo guitar fills are missing. Outro solo missing.Buyer beware this is awful, Alfred publishing know it and they don't care!
