Spiders under threat
As Peter continues to get used to his new position as a CEO he helps the new Ms. Marvel confront Doctor Minerva while Silk looks for a new place and a new look. In the year 2099 however, Superior Spider-Man Otto Octavius is lost in time when he discovers that powerful beings are hunting the Spider-Men and Women of the multiverse and so attempts to create an army of Spiders to combat them. This second volume of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' is another entertaining instalment of the series that begins the Spider-Verse storyline that was what got me interested in starting to read the series in the first place. The book is a very enjoyable read with some very nice action presented with some brilliantly dynamic artwork. The time and dimension hopping nature of the story also shows some very nice character and world design such as Assassin Spider-Man and Spider-Cyborg. I had been meaning to read the Superior Spider-Man series at some point and this book has only increased this desire as much of the action of this book takes place during the events of Superior Spider-Man #19, I didn’t feel too lost though so it is possible to enjoy the book without much prior knowledge of the previous series. This was another very entertaining instalment of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' that sets things up nicely for the Spider-Verse story in the next volume. Overall this volume is easily worth four and a half to five stars and I am very much looking forward to the next instalment.

The stage is set.
This collection of comics is building towards Spider-Verse, an event which already shows huge promise, and even more fun.The stage is set for Spider-Verse in this fantastic prelude graphic novel, which heralds the arrival of a number of Spider-Men from across many parallel universes. It is fun to see so many Spider-Men interacting with eachother, with the return of some fan favourites being the most pleasing moments. The art style is superb as usual and brings to life the many different Spider-Men, as well as the cast of villains who are seeking to wipe out all spiders.Overall a fantastic collection to prepare you for Spider-Verse, an event that shows a lot of potential and heaps of fun and unmissable moments. I would recommend picking up Volume 1 though, as it is the perfect point to jump into Spider-Man comics right now, and this continues the momentum in the lead up to what will undoubtedly be a huge event.

Dan Slott is going 'big' with his story lines - great lead into the Spiderverse event
Once again, Dan Slott is going 'big' with his story lines - great lead into the Spiderverse event. Along with Jonathan Hickman, the new breed of Marvel writers are carrying on a fine tradition of Mighty Marvel plots and twists that should keep Hollywood going for a while!

Remember when Otto fell into that time-warp back in Superior Spider-Man #19? Well, this is what happened next...
The story running through issues #7 & #8 of the Amazing Spider-Man (2014) is collected, along with Superior Spider-Man issues #32 & #33 and a short "prelude" from Free Comic Book Day 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy issue, as Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2: Spider-Verse Prelude .Opinions appear to have been mixed over the Spider-Verse event. While I find the idea of a family (or tribe) of ancient beings from the dawn of time who have spent their lives hunting down the avatars of the `Spider' across the multiverse, and there being a `master weaver' controlling fate and destiny and stuff who is the archetype of the Spider-Men across that multiverse to be silly and inconsistent with all the other archetypes and embodiments that we have seen over the years (or decades in my case); this is only a comic book after all; and more importantly - it is great fun and extremely entertaining. All that being said, let's get on with the show, which opens in the Globe Theatre on an Earth in the multiverse (home to Marvel 16-something, for example), where we see a Spider-Man on stage entertaining the audience, before a chap called Morlun steals the show, and Spider-Man, warning us that the end is nigh for Spider-Men everywhere. This 5-page story appeared in one of 2014's Free Comic Book Day issues. Then we are back with Superior Spider-Man Otto when he fell into that time-warp back in Superior Spider-Man #19. We all knew that something was up when he reappeared with no memory of what happened while he was away. Well, now the story can be told - in Superior Spider-Man #32 & #33! Short story - he ended up in 2099, acquired an AI that manifests as a hologram of Anna Maria ("When we are alone... and only then... call me Otto"), builds (steals) a time machine and sets off to look for home. Instead he finds alternate Earths where something is killing Spider-Men. He recruits an army of alternate-universe Spider-Men and begins to hunt the enemy down, during the course of which we learn something about these beings who are killing Spider-Men (and Women, and Girls, and Cats, and Cyborgs. Really; Cats.). We also meet some dodgy Spider-Men: "Why do your web-shooters fire bullets?"Meanwhile, on "our" Earth, Peter Parker, Anna Maria and Cindy Moon (the new Spider-Woman/Girl) are getting on with life, beginning with a Spider-Man team-up with the latest Ms. Marvel (which includes a link into the recent Amazing Spider-Man Volume 1.1: Learning to Crawl , and Cindy getting a makeover as costumed heroine Silk; while in the Otherworld, a Captain Britain who happens to be a Spider-Britain has detected a disturbance in the Force involving Spider-Men. Unfortunately, the higher-ups are more concerned with the end of the multiverse (as seen in the current Avengers' crisis), so he is sent off to look into it himself.So... as I said above, a very entertaining story - despite some silliness - that has all the Spidery humour and action that regular readers expect.THE SPOILER ZONETHE SPOILER ZONETHE SPOILER ZONESuperior Spider-Man #32 - 30 pages - this opens back in Superior Spider-Man #19 when Superior Spider-Man Otto fell into a time-warp. Before he returned to normal continuity with no memory of where he’d been, he ended up in 2099, acquired an AI that manifests as a hologram of Anna Maria (“When we are alone… and only then… call me Otto”), builds (steals) a time machine and sets off to look for home. Instead he finds alternate Earths where something is killing Spider-Men. He recruits an army of alternate-universe Spider-Men and begins to hunt the enemy downSuperior Spider-Man #33 - 28 pages - continues the Superior Spider-Man of 2099’s cross-time campaign to recruit/save alternate universe Spider-Men from the mysterious being hunting and killing them, during the course of which we learn something about this being and his family, whose entire existence appears to consist of hunting and killing Spider-Men (and Women, and Girls, and Cats, and Cyborgs. Really; Cats.). We also meet some dodgy Spider-Men: “Why do your web-shooters fire bullets?”Amazing Spider-Man #7 - 20 pages - Peter Parker, Anna Maria and Cindy Moon (the new Spider-Woman/Girl) are getting on with life in their shared apartment; quickly moving into a Spider-Man team-up with the latest Ms. Marvel when Dr. Minerva steals a Terrigen Cocoon from a hospital. Meanwhile, in the Otherworld, a Captain Britain who happens to be a Spider-Britain has detected a disturbance in the Force involving Spider-Men. Unfortunately, the higher-ups are more concerned with the end of the multiverse (as seen in the current Avengers’ crisis), so he is sent off to look into it himself.Amazing Spider-Man #8 continues the previous issue’s Spider-Man team-up with the latest Ms. Marvel, as they battle Dr. Minerva to retrieve a Terrigen Cocoon stolen from a hospital. Meanwhile, Cindy Moon (the new Spider-Woman/Girl) gets a makeover and becomes Silk. After the fighting, Spider-man recruits one of Dr Minerva’s henchmen to work at parker Industries… while on an alternate Earth, Spider-Girl Mayday Parker is rescued by the League of Interdimensional Spider-Men…
