Improvement over PHV1800
Thank you Amazon for having a sale on this portable vacuum cleaner! I just got this about a week ago and only used it once for some light vacuuming of dust and hairs which worked perfectly. As directed by the instructions, I charged it for 24 hours, actually a little bit more, before first usage. I know using it once and plus for light usage doesn't speak well for my review but I want to point out that I have some history with Black and Decker Pivot vacuums. My previous portable vacuum cleaner was also a Black and Decker, specifically PHV1800. I had that vacuum for about 7+ years and I love the suction power and pivot design. Of course since it's cordless, the battery wore out over time. Now it only lasts a few minutes after a full charge. However I've never had an issue with it. In fact I never replaced the filter. I was meticulous in cleaning the canister and filter when it was medium dirty or sometimes even just light dirty. For the filter, I would shake out the dark gray junk and then use a toothpick to pick out the junk in each fold of the filter.Again because of the battery issue I thought it was finally time to retire the old one and buy a new one. I was a little hesitant to buy the BDH2000PL after reading reviews of the vacuum going dead after about a month or so for some unknown reasons. After some consideration, I decided to give Black and Decker the benefit of a doubt based on past experiences. I never had any issues with my previous B&D portable vacuum. Also years ago my family got a B&D Dustbuster and we never had issues then. So I am of the mindset that B&D makes reliable products at good consumer level prices.I like this vacuum so far and yes it hasn't died yet. Battery withstanding, this new one is a big improvement over my old PHV1800. It is a lot lighter and also has less mass. The canister can now be completely removed from the main unit for a thorough cleaning without lugging the the whole thing around like the old one. I like that the brush is now integrated into the nozzle. With the old one, the brush was a separate thing that I left plugged into the charger base and was too lazy or never noticed it to take it out and use it. The pivot feels like it has a smoother ratchet than the old one.One thing that worries me a bit though is the vacuum doesn't sound as loud as my old one. Maybe I am just equating loudness with suction power or I am not knowledgeable of any technology improvements B&D has done to this vacuum. I will just have to use it more to see how it goes.Oh one more thing, my old one actually has two "On" levels: regular power or high power vacuuming. Whenever I use the vacuum, the old one, I naturally push the switch up to the highest point until it stops. I forgot the old one's switch has a middle point before reaching the end. So I guess for my usage maybe the new one is an improvement because it removes the middle point which I never used. But so far this vacuum works. I also like the improvements over the old one so I'm convinced this new one is great. :)

Best dust buster ever!!
Best dust buster ever. I bought my first one almost 10 years ago. And a second one 4 years ago. Both have worked flawlessly and frequently that whole time. Suction is super. Easy to clean. The original one is just now getting a bit noisier when it runs but heh…10 years!!

Powerful vacuum
This handheld vacuum is so powerful! I had bought a 30$ one before and it does not compare. I literally use in all over the house and the car. So easy to clean too and to charge.

Great suction. Compact. Easy to empty
I love how small this is. It's great if you live in an apartment. It's so compact that mine sits on my countertop - it sits on it's own little stand. I also love that you never have to go look for the tools because they are built in. I thought the crevice tool was a little hard to get pushed back into place, but you just have to press down on the raised button (3 raised lines) and give it a gentle shove back in. I wish the crevice tool was much longer and more narrow, but it works and you don't lose any suction using it. Speaking of suction, this little vac has it! It's a powerful little thing. I love it! I only have a large area rug in one room of my apartment, but this little hand vac keeps me from having to pull out my large corded vacuum cleaner. And I own a Dyson Animal which has unbeatable suction. So I thought there was no way this little Black + Decker could compare, but what a surprise! It gets all the little pieces of paper and bits off the rug and floor just like my Dyson. It will also vacuum hair, but I noticed it takes about 2 to 4 passes to get it. It is not a very light vacuum, so your arm can get a little tired after a while, but it's not heavy either. I would say it's probably about average. I've tried it in my car and the only thing I was dissatisfied about was that there was dog fur in the very back of my car and it wouldn't suck that up very well. I couldn't understand that because the suction seems so great otherwise. It was just a little clunky trying to maneuver it around the pedals on the floorboards, but it did get everything clean as well as the upholstery. I just couldn't get into any little nooks or crannies because, again, the crevice tool isn't as long or narrow as I'd like it to be. But it does get down in between where the seat backs meet the seats and many other places.I have just taken other people's advice on here and I charged it fully and then unplugged the vacuum. I use it sporadically many times, and then when I think it probably needs charged I charge it again and then unplug it again. That part is a pain, but anything to save the battery, right?Overall, I think this was a great purchase and I am very pleased. I have only owned it for about 2 or 3 months, so I hope that it lasts a long time. I also purchased the extended warranty on this. I don't normally do that, but the fact that so many reviewers were concerned about the battery life gave me pause.I think you'll be very happy if you purchase this. You'll never have to go look for your tools, they're always on board, you can't beat the suction, and the price is pretty much on point with others that I looked at. Hope this helps!
