RK Racing Chain UCT2100 Universal Chain Tool Kit

This is one of the best chain tools I've ever used. The product is well made to good tolerances. Driving the rivet from the worn-out chain is typically the hardest part of the job, but I always take a minute to file/grind the head of the rivet down before using ANY chain tool. Riveting the new chain was easy and trouble free. The "five" series chain used on my motorcycle requires a 5.5mm diameter rivet head once riveted, and this tool produced exactly that. There were no weird deformations of the rivet head, and no cracks or splits of the rivet material around the edges of the head. For a change, I have complete confidence in the riveting provided by a tool. The long-term durability yet remains to be seen, but considering that the first use left absolutely no witness marks anywhere on the tool, I have no reason not to expect this tool to last generations.

Unless you get one that's defective or you can't/won't follow instructions this RK chain break/rivet tool is all you need to replace your motorcycle chain. Most of the chain break tools advise you to grind the old rivet head off before pushing the rivet out, this RK tool doesn't require grinding of the rivet head "ON MOST CHAINS"I bought a RK chain that had to be shortened by 2 links and the tool pushed the rivet out without grinding, but when I went to remove the old "stock" chain from my KTM the force I was putting on the tool seemed to be a lot more than I had needed on the new RK chain, so I stopped and ground the head off the rivet. I don't know who's chains KTM uses on their bikes, but it looked like an unbranded DID chain. The tool may have pushed the rivet out before over stressing it, but I had the grinder right there, so I decided to be cautious. It's my belief that RK did the R&D work on their chain tool using their on branded chains, so naturally the tool worked fine on my new RK chain, other brands of chain using a different style of rivet might still need to be ground or filed off before pushing the rivet out.On the install I took my time flaring the new rivet, snugging down one flat at a time and stopping to check the flair with a dial indicator, my target was flaring to a .05mm increase in the diameter of the rivet head. turned out that I could have just cranked it down till it bottomed out, because that's where I ended up and the rivet had a perfect .05mm head, might work out different with a different brand of chain, but the RK tool with a RK chain made for a very easy chain replacement. I know this is starting to sound like a RK Add, but truthfully this is my first experience with any RK products.

I debated buying a kit from Cycle Gear (though I'm always suspicious of their constant 40-50% sales on this kit, which I think is bc it's junk) or some knock-off no-brand, but in the end, there were just too many valid complaints and negative reviews about those kits. But this RK kit? Great stuff. The instructions are actually written really well too, with good pics. Pieces are sturdy and unless you do something wrong (like not line up the tool when breaking a link), this thing is not going to break. Oh, and before you break a link? Be sure to grind the head first. It makes it SO much easier to push the pin out.

The first chain I used this on, I messed up because I missed an important piece in the instructions. The tool works perfectly, I just think the instructions could be a little clearer. It seems to be very good though, I used it on three chains after I figured out my issue.

Just installed a DID 525VX3, that replaced a REGINA 525ZRP OE chain. Ground one link pin flush on REGINA chain and pressed out link pin with very little effort. Installed DID chain and had to remove two links. RK tool pressed out DID link without grinding link pin with a little effort. Installed the DID rivet-type master link by inserting pins through inner links, then used RK tool to press on side plate, which it did without issue. Then reconfigured the tool to flare the rivet links. It made very nice flares and when I measured with my digital calipers the flare was at the low end of the recommended DID flaring specs, which is .224 for my DID chain. I used a tiny amount of the new chain grease to lube the flaring dies in the RK tool before pressing the rivets, not sure if it helped but the rivets turned out perfect.This is the first time I have ever pressed a master link and riveted it together. I've done plenty of non O-ring chains with a clip-type master link, but the rivet-type master was a first for me. Just took my time and it went as good as I had hoped.After I finished the install, just to see I removed a link pin from the REGINA chain without grinding the link pin. It did take a little more effort, about the same as the DID, however it pressed the link pin out just fine. I would not hesitate to recommend this tool to anyone.

Just got this chain tool kit today and opened it up and found there was 2 pieces of tools missing out of the box. Even the booklet shows all the pieces. This was supposedly brand new, so why am I missing parts??

This is a good quality tool. It really makes a difference using a good chain tool compared to the cheap ones. Buying the RK chain tool kit made installing chains MUCH easier than fighting with the poor quality chain tools I was used to. Had I known it would make such a difference, I would have bought an RK unit from the get go. It really is worth the extra expense. I've used it on several chains now and it's been flawless.
