Up and running in minutes - - initial issue w/ cell connect - - customer support is awesome

* * * * * Update:My previous review was a 4 star review that has wholeheartedly been upped to 5 stars. This is not only because of the product itself, but because of the amazing customer service and support I've received from YoLink. Read the review below that notes the one and only issue I had was with setting up cell number connection. I emailed them to ask for help.Within a day I received a reply from YoLink noting this is a known issue and they are working on a fix.In another 2 days, I received another email letting me know the issue had been fixed.I tried it, and it worked! Not only are they super responsive, they also impressed me with the fact that they actually followed through and contacted me to let me know that my issue had been resolved.-------------------------Initial review:I just received this today and had it 98% up and running in less than 15 minutes. The 2% part that isn't working is because I cannot get it to take my cell number.Very frustrating because receiving text alerts is what makes this stand out from all the many other leak sensors out there.Set up for all other aspects of this was amazingly fast and easy. Connections were made quickly and app and email notifications during leak tests were amazingly almost instantaneous.I just cannot get it to send me a confirmation code that's a necessary step in adding a cell number for text alerts.I "invited" my husband to join the household so he would receive notifications too. He opened his own account, accepted my invitation an was set up in less than a few minutes. All went smoothly for him except that he was not able to add his cell number for text notifications either. The step for this process requires you entering your cell in the settings portion of the app, then waiting to receive a text with a confirmation code. That code never comes. We tried resetting the hub, resetting our phones, texting each other just to be sure there wasn't some glitch with our ability to receive texts. After all this neither of us receives the code and therefore, we only receive notifications via email and app. It's a holiday weekend, so there is no support available from the company. I've emailed them and will try calling when they're open.

Insurance Company Incentive Made Me Give These A Try...

I'd heard of the Yolink WiFi sensors and often thought about trying them but never got around to it till now. I got a letter from my insurance company Residence Mutual offering to reimburse me up to $100 for purchasing and installing them at each fixture and appliance connected to water so I ordered this starter kit to check them out and I'm glad I did. Easy setup of the hub via Ethernet connection, just be aware these will only connect to 2.4 ghz. I could have turned off my 5G but didn't want the hassle of trying to figure out how so I went with the Ethernet option. I have 12 water connections so it will probably cost me a little more than the insurance company will refund me but that's okay, it's money well spent in my opinion. If you're considering a purchase you might want to check with your insurance company first to see if they're offering any kind of incentive.

YoLink and a Bulldog Can Prevent a Home Flood

We had a flood a few years ago when our 3-year-old American (brand name) water heater in the garage ruptured, blew a hole in the drywall, and water poured into the house. Of course this happened late at night on a holiday weekend. I never, never want to repeat that terrible experience! Reassembling our home took 4-5 months of hassles and more money than the insurance company paid. (We wanted more control than turning everything over to a contractor with a collection of minimum wage workers.)After much research, we bought a YoLink water detection system with a base station, 12 sensors, and an alarm. Sensors have been located under or next to every source of water in the house -- toilets, sinks, clothes washer, refrigerator, dishwasher (a Sensor 2 runs under it), water heater, and water softener. I'm a 69-year-old woman who isn't a programmer and I'd say the set up was pretty simple. When I got stuck, YoSmart's customer service (hi, Emily!) and tech. support (hi, Eric!) were an email away.We recently installed the last part of our system -- a YoLink controller and an EcoNet Bulldog-JW+ purchased at https://www.econetshop.com/bulldog-jw2.html. (We ordered the ODK-2 system that includes a beefy clamshell box for the controller because we live in the desert and our water supply is outside.)Here's what will happen within seconds if we have a leak in the plumbing. For example, let's say the pipe under the kitchen sink starts dripping.1. The sensor we placed under the pipe will quickly react to a drop of water. It will send a signal saying water has been detected and it's time for the Bulldog to close off the water supply.2. The base station will alert the controller sitting outside in the clamshell next to the water supply to spring into action. It also will sound the alarm, which emits a very loud blare for 30 seconds.)3. The controller will direct the Bulldog to shut off the water supply. I've counted. The water will be completely shut off in 19 seconds. My husband didn't get it shut off that fast during our flood.4. Emails also will be sent to both my husband and me alerting us that a water leak has been detected. (Only one of us can be designated to receive a free SMS message and, as our family tech, I receive it.) These communiques specify which sensor has been triggered.I called YoSmart for help when I needed to program the sensors to send messages to turn off the water supply. This needs to be done for each sensor. (YoSmart, why can't we group the sensors and only go through the procedure once?) I'm going to list the steps in hopes it will help another person who lacks familiarity with IFTTT (If This, Then That) programming. Note: Before you program the sensor, you need to scan the QR code on the YoLink valve controller, bind it to the system, press the Set button on the controller, and position the slider on the lower right of its tile on the app to on.How to program a YoLink sensor to trigger a shut off off the water supply1. Begin at the home screen of the YoLink app on your mobile phone.2. Tap the Smart button located at the bottom of the screen.3. Tap Automation on the top right.4. Tap the white plus symbol in the upper right.6. Type the name of the sensor that will initiate the action. Example: Kitchen sink7. Tap the plus symbol in the When section.8. Tap Device Actions.9. Tap the tile for the sensor that you're programming. (Kitchen sink in our example.)10. Tap the button next to Water Detected.11. Tap the plus symbol under Behavior.12. Tap Device Actions13. Tap the YoLink Valve tile. (Is the slider switched to on?)14. Tap Close.15. Tap the white check mark in the upper right on the Device Actions screen.16. Tap the white checkmark in the upper right on the Choose and Set screen.17. Repeat this procedure for all of the sensors that you want to initiate a water shutoff.OK, it looks complicated but it really isn't. The first go-through takes a little while, but I had a dozen sensors programmed in a few minutes.I'm a big fan of YoLink. Usually anyone who visits our home gets a demonstration. The only thing I'd like to see is a bank of step-by-step directions like those above for assorted system actions. For example, I was told the system could phone me when it's triggered, but I haven't figured out how to do that. It's my opinion that YoLink has posted too many long YouTube videos with annoying music. I would like a step-by-step list of the actions. Adding an image next to each one would be a bonus! I could print them and quickly get the job done.
