A Fat, Thick Pig.
The SOG Kiku is a heavy and stubby feeling knife. If you are in need of something like this, It fits the bill. The blade is short and thick and stubby. It feels very tough and ready for abuse. The blade steel is CTX XHP which is a nice balanced steel. Fairly stainless, holds a good edge, and is tough. A pretty balanced steel overall. This knife feels like it can take a beating. The handle on this one is micarta, the grippy and solid in the hand. The crossbar lock mechanism feels very good. The action is snappy enough when the back flipper is used, but you really feel that thick and heavy blade slowing things down a little. I cannot finger flick this one open. It's a bit of a tight detent and not enough hole for that one. I can thumb flick it with my nail, but it stings a bit. The crossbar is drop-shut smooth, and smooth when used to open, and the lock up is solid in the open position. It feels kind of like a hunter's "skinner" knife, in its blade profile and contour. A fat, thick, short knife. It's a little heavy for EDC for most people. Feels like a knife you'd use in rough situations where you really want to dig into stuff. Still the edge is surprisingly slicey and the grind allows you to shave material well. Tough enough to hold up well, I'd guess.I paid $99 for this one, which was a good deal for what it is, though I'm still searching out a consistent use for this one. Here's a size comparison with the Spyderco Native 5, Tenacious, and Para 3.

One of my all time favorite knife buys
I know how trite this sounds but for years I have been searching for the perfect EDC. And I realize if you asked 100 people what they want in an EDC - you would probably get about that many different answers. All I really say is that this little SOG really does it for me. It’s a quality build, feels hefty in the hand, it’s not too big and not too small. Plus there is just a bit of spring assist in opening the blade - which I really like. I also love the feel of the linen micarta handles and the sculpturing SOG molded into them. I also love the jimping that SOG put on the back of the blade and where your index finger engages the blade launch. Last but not least, I love the slide blade release. This means no more fumbling to find a lock liner release. Admittedly, if this knife had not been on sale (about 50%) I would never have gambled that much money on it. Thank goodness and Amazon it was.

Priced to sell.
SOG is at the top of their game with this one. A bit beefy for an EDC, but the build and materials are excellent. The lock work great and makes it so fidget friendly, sometimes I can't put it down. I wish it was one of their USA made knives, but at a sale price of $100 what can I expect. Great knife for a real man.

Loves me some Kiku. You should too!
This is a 5 star knife for the money. There, I said it. Yet, I gave it 4 stars to be realistic. This is my 2nd fave EDC because of the Micarta and comfy flip action and liner lock. AND, it's a beast! It cuts tomatoes, twine, small wire, boxes, and just anything I throw at it. The short blade seems odd at first, but it's amazing at what it does. The Micarta is a bit fru-fru for me, but the ease of deep pocket carry and the heft in the hand make it a beast you can actually EDC. This is the best value in EDC in my collection. But it's not a 5 star knife. The blade is not slicey and the action is sloppy if it's the least bit dirty. That's OK, it is great for what it is. The Japan manufacturing point and great usual price is just a bonus.

Nice Knife
I have been looking for some time for a new nice carry knife and I have several high dollar knives. I really like this one, feels good in your hand and put my first edge on with my stone the edge is holding up really well. It is bulky but it can take some abuse and continues to work well. Very pleased with most of my SOGS

Good, heavy duty EDC knife
Nice heavy duty knife. SOG has stepped up their game and are producing some nice knives. This is the full weight version which I prefer. It has heavy liners and is a large knife - the type sold in the men’s department. Fit and finish is well executed. It feels good in the hand. I like the “knapped flint” turtle shell contoured Micarta handle scales. The grinds are well done and symmetrical. The knife is factory sharp but not hair splitting. Overall, I like it. Some of the subjective dislikes is the compound grind and the concave contour of the blade. I will withhold judgement until I successfully sharpen it. The lack of a sharpening choil makes it difficult as well.
