Q: How long is the cable to the plug? Would it allow it to be wall mounted below a 25 or 35mm surface box (socket) and still plug in?

Hi Paul, Yes, should be ok. If you look at the diagram and imagine it's my wall socket as follows..... From the bottom of the two 3 pin socket in the wall to my floor (including skirting board) is 35mm. Therefore, the bottom of the extension (where the three 3 pin plugs can go) which hangs down is still 15mm clear of the floor. A very good quality product. Regards, David in Colchester.

Q: Is this plug surge protected?

Hello Yvonne! As far as I know this plug is not surge protected, but don't let that put you off this excellent quality and well made product. I use all 3 plugs permanently switched on in the hallway for an intruder alarm, answer machine and table lamp and have never had any problem when we have had a power cut, which is quite common where we live. I doubt whether you will use all 3 plugs at once for high power use such as washing machine, iron, kettle, heater, etc., but if you do, just check the maximum wattage this unit can take first and then check you do not exceed that amount compared to the appliance(s) you intend to use. For example, if the 3 plug maximum wattage is 3,000 watts and you want to use a kettle at 400 watts, a toaster at 600 watts and an iron at 1500 watts, then you are well within the safe maximum. If those three items totalled 3,200 watts, then don't use one of those items so as to stay below 3,000 watts. The amounts of wattage I have stated here is ONLY an example, so check your items first! Q: can a number of smart plugs be accommodated side by side ?

Hi Noel, If the 'smart' plugs to which you refer are USB ports then, yes, there are three you can use side by side for charging your mobile phone etc. This is an excellent and well made quality product which, from its design, is handy for multi-use of plugs at the same time and also if what you need to plug in does not quite reach the wall socket.
