Decent sensor for a gray (or fresh) water tank
The factory installed tank monitor started failing for the Gray water tank. Was intermittent but now is stuck at 1/3. Uses external sensor, not though the tank. Tried multiple times to clean the tank with no change. Was looking at a more expensive solution but that would have required a lot of work to neatly replace the LED level indicators.I had already installed a Mopeka LP tank sensor and that works very well, and appears to track the LP usage quite well.Found that I had just enough access to the bottom of the Gray water tank to install the Mopeka water sensor so decided to give that a try.Installation was pretty easy.I tested by adding 12 gallons of water to the empty tank.Configuring the tank height to the actual value gave a bogus reading. The tank height is about 7" but I had to tell the Mopeka app that it was 12" to get close to the expected reading.Mopeka support was very responsive, and we tried a couple of things with no difference. They suspect that the sensor is defective so they sent a replacement. So high marks for excellent customer service.I think that it more likely might have something to do with the thickness of the tank in our motor home, but we will see if the new sensor makes a difference.I didn't have time before our recent trip to install the replacement sensor, so I'll be doing that soon. But the existing sensor with the tank height set to the larger value appeared to work well on the trip. So, overall, quite happy with the solution. It would be nicer if there was a monitor panel that reads out in percentages like the smart phone app, but the only monitor panel they currently have just uses LEDs so that is not as nice as the phone app.I my case I would not be able to use a Mopeka sensor on the fresh water tank as it sits flat on the floor under the bed.I would certainly purchase again if I needed another one in the future.

Flimsy cover PRONE to BREAK
This is an excellent tank sensor but the way to attach it to a tank is too fragile. It would be much more user friendly and practical if it would ship with the attachment ring (or “collar”) separated from its cover and the cover made with a more sturdy and flexible type of plastic. It seemed to be a well conceived feature. But it is neither adequately designed in detail nor manufactured from a carefully chosen material. We had to order a replacement “collar” and cover for ~$14 because the sensor package included a ring already assembled with its cover. That important detail was missing from the accompanying instructions ! Those were mute about how to get the two pieces apart during installation. It was NOT at all easy to do!There was no place, really, where to insert any tool for leverage. So, I tried to spread the parts apart carefully with my fingers. However, it became immediately clear that this required much pressure. I proceeded to gradually increase the pressure. But the cover broke apart instantly when I got it released from the first snap! Though it still fit over the glued down ring and the sensor, with all snaps catching properly, it was a rather loose fit.For an off-road RV — even for one that’s not intended to drive over rugged, uncharted terrain -- this posed an unacceptable risk that the cover may be snagged and torn off, even wile merely crossing some tall grass or minor shrubbery!Because the crack had occurred when the temperature was at about 34 degrees, I waited for a 59 degree afternoon to install this replacement, hoping the plastic would be more pliable and easier to handle. I followed Mopeka's illustration on 'removal of the cover for battery change', using a screw driver to remove the cover from the “collar” (the term used for this replacement part of what was called a “ring” in the complete sensor package).Again, I was proceeding very slowly and carefully in increasing the pressure to disengage the parts, but this time the latch cracked on both sides before it came off the snap, and that latch broke off completely when I tried to push it back over a snap. I returned ther unusable spare part for a refund.Instead of trying my luck again with another new cover, which was bound to be as flimsy as the original and the spare one, I used a steel wire to bridge the break in the circumference of the original cover and to securely keep it in place, which was possible because all its latches were still intact.

Works great with my Victron Cerbo GX and the portal
These things are working great on my truck camper. I installed them on my fresh water and grey water tanks since the stock 4 led level indicators were no longer accurate. The best part about these sensors is there's nothing that goes inside the tank so you don't have to worry about them getting gummed up with sludge or other buildup. They're also a lot more accurate than the four led sensors most RVs come with. On top of that, they integrate easily with the Victron Cerbo GX unit I already have installed so I can monitor my water level through my Victron portal and setup alerts and other fancy features, if I care to. The Mopeka app is fine and gets the job done. Maybe not the most intuitive or configurable but certainly gets the job done. Installation was about as easy as can be expected considering you have to get to the bottom of your tank. I pulled the panel off of the bottom of my truck camper which gave me easy access to clean the tank and attach the mounting brackets. I've read some reviews about the battery life being a bit disappointing, and even if it's fantastic, I don't want to have to eventually open up the bottom of my camper again to replace the batteries, so I opened up each sensor and soldered on two wires to the battery connection so I can eventually wire in an external battery or 3 volt power supply. Of course, that voids any warranty, but I'm willing to take that chance. So far, so good. I'm quite pleased and would recommend these to anyone who wants more accurate water sensors, as long as you can get to the bottom of your tanks.
