I like how easy these are to install. Also the screws are all self-tapping, so they drill their own pilot hole, No need to drill a pilot hole first. Only thing I wish was more robust is the optional retention clip. I wish is was very tight, beefy and secure. But in reality, it's only to keep a child from removing the bar. All in all I'm really happy with the ease of installation and the over all results.

For an item to be so basic it is extremely strong and effective it gets the job done. Would highly recommend.

Item is advertised as being suitable for both horizontal and vertical windows. I have vertical windows (double hung) and wanted a way to ensure that I could have my windows open a little but not be able to opened enough for someone to get in. I didn't want to attach the hardware to my window frames to hold the bars in place because then I wouldn't be able to fully open the windows. So I used velcro to attach them. This way they will stay in place if someone tries to force the window open and yet I can easily remove them when I want to open the window all the way.

The bar isn't really adjustable. I ended up throwing it away after a year because it kept jamming up on me. Took it apart to try and fix. But it's not fixable. It's just really cheaply made and the one piece was too small to actually allow the rod to pass through without force. And now its landfill.

The dog door itself works really well, but the manufacturer really falls short on providing installation hardware to secure it in place. The thing doesn’t have any mounts so it flops around in the slot once installed. And the installation video they show is for a different product that has a spring mechanism — this has no such feature. My advice to potential buyers is look for another product unless you want to spend a lot of time trying to find adequate brackets and hardware to hold the door in place.

Solidly protects our first floor sliding window. Sometimes I forget to latch it and the bar reminds me to latch and brace the window shut with the bar.
